I wrote a post last year why can’t dating sites be more like social networks and mentioned some mobile dating sites amongst others.  Since then location based apps and sites have sprung up all over the net and have become very popular.  Foursquare and Gowalla now regularly update to Twitter so that people can meet up with each other wherever they find themselves.  There is no more lonely or should I say alone?

I came across this brilliant TED talk by Renny Gleeson a few weeks back and it made me very thoughtful about how our social environment has changed over the years. Due to technology & social networks many of us are no longer inside our relationships but outside looking in. No doubt this would have occurred in the past but now technology & the environment support us in viewing/sharing our relationships rather than enjoying & participating in them. Check out Renny’s talk & let me know in the comments how you feel about his perspective. Its funny & enjoyable to watch whilst making a statement about our technological social life.

during the week I asked a few questions about online dating sites from people on Aardvark and got some pretty negative responses.  Aardvark is a great site where you can ask questions about anything & get responses either by email or IM.  Its fun & a great way to have conversations, much as I love Twitter, I dont always get responses to questions on Twitter, possibly everyone is too busy trying to sell themselves or something?  After the responses I received, I decided to write a post about whats wrong with online dating sites because it seems they are not listening.  Has that got something to do with the fact that the majority are run by men????

wouldn’t it be great if online dating sites were more like social networks?  These days most people spend a lot of time interacting on social networks, you dont have to be a geek now!  I have to own up to being very partial to social networks and find that in contrast online dating sites can be less friendly or able to deliver a good match, probably due to their fear of loss of customers?
