whats wrong with online dating sites?

during the week I asked a few questions about online dating sites from people on Aardvark and got some pretty negative responses.  Aardvark is a great site where you can ask questions about anything & get responses either by email or IM.  Its fun & a great way to have conversations, much as I love Twitter, I dont always get responses to questions on Twitter, possibly everyone is too busy trying to sell themselves or something?  After the responses I received, I decided to write a post about whats wrong with online dating sites because it seems they are not listening.  Has that got something to do with the fact that the majority are run by men????

why cant online dating sites be more like social networks?

wouldn’t it be great if online dating sites were more like social networks?  These days most people spend a lot of time interacting on social networks, you dont have to be a geek now!  I have to own up to being very partial to social networks and find that in contrast online dating sites can be less friendly or able to deliver a good match, probably due to their fear of loss of customers?

Recession dating

The credit crunch has everyone reassessing their lives & changing their behavior (which can definitely be a positive thing) & not spending as much as they have in the past.  After writing my post last week in which I negatively commented on Dr Pepper Schwartz’s article encouraging people to get a partner to weather the ‘tough economic times’, I thought a little more on the subject.  This week I also read an interesting Reuter’s article titled ‘Falling stock markets spur searches for love online’ and I quote them below:

As stock markets across the globe have plummeted, more people have opted to try their luck looking for love online as a distraction from financial woes — and to save themselves money, according to dating Web sites.
