going the distance?

the biggest challenge in matching a couple is to match each individual’s requirement for commitment. The word commit comes from Latin committere “to bring together” from com- “together” & mittere “to put, send”. It seems to be an integral & important ingredient in making any relationship long term and to give it staying power. The big ‘C’ word is what scares a lot of people, particularly men, but if we have nothing binding us together, a relationship will slowly fade away. However the reality is that we all have different ideals and images about what commitment means for us and this is not often addressed.

for better or worse

are we better or worse if we stay in relationships or marriages, for ‘better or worse’? The great benefit about commitment to another person, is that we feel safe enough to expose more vulnerable aspects of ourselves. This benefits a couple because that allows for more intimacy between the two people. That is the heart of a good relationship!

left or right brain?

we all have different development as regards our brains and this can strongly affect how we relate and who we relate with.  It is helpful to understand & know our own leaning or orientation and what parts of the brain we may need to develop. It is often the undeveloped that we may be attracted to in others but it is important that we try to develop this so we can see all sides of the picture (or should I say brain?)

getting to know you?

I sometimes wonder if anyone ever really knows another person? We are all such complex diamonds with so… many faces. We may show one or a few faces to each person but it is hard to show all to one person. It sometimes takes a lifetime to see our own faces, let alone another’s. Maybe it is just in our private moments that we really appear in a pure unadulterated state?
