How was 2008 for you & will 2009 be a better year?

We have already rolled into the new year 2009, out with the old and in with the new!  I know I’m a bit late, but as they say better late than never!  It certainly was a surprising year, even for me with the big events that occurred.  At the end of 2007 I wrote in my email newsletter to astrological clients, that institutions & businesses that were not authentic & solid would be tested as the planet Pluto started to move into Capricorn.  However no one could have predicted how many of the world’s banks & businesses were not on good & solid foundations & how their business models were being propped up by greed.

Some of the major banks that fell or were forced to amalgamate were institutions that were part of our business environment for a long time.  We finished 2008 with most of the western world officially in recession and governments all around the world bailing out some of the banks that were allowed to survive the year’s crisis.  When I tried to research this on the net, I found it interesting that it was difficult to find complete lists of banks & businesses that failed in 2008.  Is this some sort of denial on the part of media to stick their heads in the sand hoping that things will go back to normal?????  The major 3 car manufacturers in Detroit in the US have also had to be bailed out recently too by the US administration! It was wishful thinking on my part that this bailout would come with conditions that they manufacture cars that are environmentally friendly, as suggested by Michael Moore on the Jay Leno show.

One of the great celebrations through all the doom & gloom & insecurity that surrounded us in the business community in 2008, was that in November08 Obama was elected President of the US, one of the largest economies in the world.  Against all odds, a black president who is also a good & organized man will be given the reins of power on 20th January 2009, hopefully to work at cleaning up some of the mess?  This is certainly a profound moment in history.  Pluto’s transit into Capricorn also heralded the possibility of this too, against all odds.

A friend made a comment after I sent out last year’s email newsletter to my astrological clients for new year 2008 that I was being too negative & that it would instill fear into people.  However reality has to surface sooner or later and the reality was that these banks & businesses were not founded on a good authentic business model where both customers & the company were served.  This has been exposed in a major way now.  Pluto’s process is to heal & it brings the illness to the surface to be lanced and the beginning of that process is dependent on how out of balance the situation is that requires profound healing.  Of course it can be pretty messy too as the poison is made obvious, as in 2008.

It’s the same old story. Boy finds girl; boy loses girl; girl finds boy; boy forgets girl; boy remembers girl; girl dies in tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Years Day. The Naked Gun

The next stage of the Plutonic process is to bring things back to basics; to reality and of course that is pretty clear at the moment.  The rebuilding can then happen hopefully in a new authentic way where power is not misused.  2009 is full of hope for the start of rebuilding and only business that has solid foundations & good healthy business models will commence that work.  So even if governments prop up ailing banks or business & don’t respond to the need for change then there will be further collapses.
I am hoping that you have not suffered from these big events of 2008 and I invite you to comment below.

One of the best articles that I did find was from the Seattle Times titled: It was a year of record misery:

the largest bankruptcy, bank failure and alleged Ponzi scheme in U.S. history; $720 billion in write-downs and losses by financial institutions; $30.1 trillion in market valuation wiped out.  While the fear may pass, it will leave permanent changes. Few believe Wall Street will emerge as anything like the freewheeling industry it was over the past few decades.

“I see this as a Darwinian event,” said Mount Lucas Management’s DeRosa.

“You find out which specimens of the species are genetically fit. I’m reasonably sure that things in 2009 will get better, but they’ll get materially worse before they start to look up.”

I’m going to digress from my usual habit of leaving you with a funny video, so I am going to share an interesting perspective on the credit crunch with this video.  Learn & enjoy….
