asoundmatchdotcom relationship assessment review

Today I wanted to review asoundmatch.com & their relationship assessment. I love music & this compatibility system is based on your taste in music.

A Sound Match is a relationship compatibility system and dating service using a music quiz to reveal music personality and predict compatibility. The purpose is to match people who bring out the best in each other.

The assessment takes 3 minutes to complete & is reasonably fun!  There are four possible results that you can be once you have completed your questionnaire, explanations below.

Unchained Melody – Music’s great, but it’s certainly not the most important thing in your life. Sure, you sing along when you know the song, but you’re more likely to have the radio turned off, or playing quietly in the background while you do something else. You’ve been known to have a few Broadway musical cds lying around the car and maybe even some oldies, classical or classic rock. You’ll go to a concert if persuaded, but you can think of other ways that you’d prefer to spend your Saturday night. Like you said, music is great, but more often than not, it’s preferred for the background.

Shining Star – You’ve been known to buy a few cds a year if you hear something that really strikes your fancy, yet you wouldn’t go so far as to call music a hobby. You enjoy fiddling around the radio dial hoping to hear music you recognize rather than checking out what’s new at college radio; you’ll even catch a show or two during the year, usually of a band you’ve known about for a while. You might consider playing music while company is visiting, but music rarely takes center stage as the focal point of your social activities.

Heart of Gold – People who know you might call you a music enthusiast. Mania would be a strong word, but music is definitely an important part of your life. You love music, try to stay alert about new artists and are known to pop into a record store on a whim and not leave empty-handed. You’re keen on checking out shows whenever you can and pride yourself on having diverse musical taste. And, sometimes life makes music take a back seat and that’s ok with you — you know you’ll get back to it someday soon.

Diamond in the Rough – Devotee, fan, music lover, you’ve heard it all. You are passionate about music — a diverse assortment of music, and you love sharing it with everyone you know. If a band you like is in town, you’re there — and you’ve been known to spontaneously travel to catch the next show. You’ve got a CD & MP3 collection bursting with cool mixes, live shows and rare releases (all legal, of course), and you rarely embark on a road trip without a selection of tunes you’ve painstakingly considered. You consider music a loyal friend you hang out with often.

I came out as a ‘Diamond in the Rough’ and this was quick, easy & fun to complete.  However I’m not sure that music can gauge the possible success of a relationship.  It could certainly be a great start but long term very doubtful.  Humans are complex and so…. multi faceted & this seems a great way to bring friends together.  This theory is based on how much you like music not the kind of music you listen to.

It is difficult to tell from the site much concrete info about Lynne who put the assessment together which doesn’t inspire confidence.  So I have summarized below:

I am in love with music. I listen often and my tastes are wide-ranging.I worked in the music business for most of my career.Being single, I also did a lot of field testing which means I began to examine the music lifestyle of the men I dated to see how well we got along and how connected I felt. Eventually, before I would consider making a first date, I asked the guy to take the quiz (in the name of social science).

I am still not convinced that the degree that you like music can predict the complexity of relationship.  However I would recommend putting the badge on your social network page & using it in the spirit of fun, rather than seriously relying on the review.  I would back it up with other more well rounded relationship assessments & of course I would recommend you check out the AstraMatch Meter.  In the spirit of Fun, I would give this assessment a score of 3 out of 10.

I’ll leave you with a funny ad that shows how easily we can delude ourselves.  Enjoy….

Thanks a lot for reviewing A Sound Match. I can see why you might think that music is a light rather than meaningful way to predict long-term compatibility. [I ought to do a better job explaining myself on the site - the blog offers more in-depth info]

How much you like music speaks volumes about your overall personality and below I list some traits that I know about you and other Diamonds in the Rough (who land on the far right of the spectrum = optimal passion for music). Please tell me if I am off base.

    • Unconventional, resists the mainstream
    • Non-conforming, more apt to take social risk
    • Open to new experience, explores social unknowns
    • Chooses life off the beaten path, edgy

The less someone likes music, the less you see these traits in them – which very much impacts a Diamond in the Rough's ability to enjoy a long-term, healthy relationship with an Unchained Melody (who is apathetic about music), for instance. Our Music Personality reveals if others process information and walk through the world like we do.

For sure, relationships are complex. I know that matching up with someone who shares your interest in music is the best filter to expose the people you are most likely to connect with on multiple levels. I have interviewed thousands of couples over the years. I have yet to meet a couple who models relationship happiness who have opposing interests in music.

    Thanks, again, for the review!
