meeting of minds
we all know the feeling when we have a wonderful ‘in the flow’ conversation or brainstorming with another. It’s a rush & often we take some great ideas or inspirations away to ponder or change our lives! So what does it take for a meeting of minds? Firstly we do not all think in the same way & even though thoughts are the end result for everyone, there are different sources of those thoughts.
There are 4 types of thinkers:
- Intellectual thinker who connects thoughts
- Instinctive thinker whose thoughts spring out of feelings
- Intuitive thinker whose visions & inspirations becomes thoughts
- Pragmatic thinker who thoughts make practical sense

Of course not all these minds meet.
- Like on like work in the most harmony together ie. Intellectual with intellectual; instinctive with instinctive; intuitive with intuitive & pragmatic with pragmatic.
- However there is more mental stimulation by meeting minds that come from a different base than one’s own.

- The intellectual thinker has similarities to the intuitive thinker dealing with the intangible so readily as they both do. As a result they can find many opportunities for their minds to meet with the intuitive bringing new visions to mix to be connected by the intellectual.
- The intellectual thinker may clash with the instinctive thinker who may not be able to explain easily or clearly their path to an idea or decision. Whilst the intellectual may frustrate the instinctive by their seemingly arbitrary choice of ideas. Ideas which have no personal relevance but merely because they are ideas can seem nonsensical to the instinctive.
- The intellectual thinker can also see the pragmatic thinker’s choice of practical solutions as making some sense. However they may both frustrate each other due their difference base of ideas.

- The instinctive thinker can most easily meet the pragmatic thinker as they both have a personal base for their ideas and together can often make them work for real in the world.
- The instinctive thinker can also relate to the visionary ideas of the intuitive thinker but they may both frustrate each other at times.
- The intuitive thinker may clash with the pragmatic thinker as they both have very different bases for their ideas. The intuitive may find limitations in the pragmatic thinking and the pragmatic may find the intuitive thoughts not easily applicable to ordinary life and issues and therefore discount them.

This of course has great implications for education because obviously not everyone can be educated in the same manner, although it seems we try! Considering all the differences it makes for an interesting world when minds meet and also makes more valuable the experience when results are profound and in the flow!
